Trident

Trident is the latest edition to the Triconex product line. Based on proven Triconex TMR technology, Trident is designed to fit smaller applications where, until now, price concerns had kept processes tied to the operating restrictions of dual and simplex architectures.

Trident breaks through this barrier and provides customers with a powerful, cost-effective solution and an alternative control strategy to maximize both high reliability and high availability applications.

Trident's unique diagnostic approach allows greater fault coverage and localization, achieving the highest system availability and reliability possible. The Trident is TÜV certified to degrade from full 2oo3D TMR mode to an enhanced 1oo2D Dual mode to a 1oo1D Simplex mode without shutting down the process. That's a TÜV Certified 3-2-1-0 configurable mode of operation!

Trident provides you with the assurance of continuous operation and numerous installation possibilities due to its smaller footprint and modular design. You no longer need to settle for dual redundancy when what you really need is TMR. Now you have a choice. Why settle for a dual system when you can have a triple redundant system that never interrupts your production and maintains maximum safety?

Along with the benefits and features of the Triconex Triple Modular Redundant Approach, the Trident offers these enhanced features:

  • Cost Reduction– The Trident significantly reduces the cost of small system configurations.
  • High Performance– Powerful Motorola MPC860 PowerQUICC™ Quad Integrated Communication Processors integrate two processing blocks allowing user program execution as fast as 10 milliseconds.
  • Improved Diagnostics – High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) on the I/O modules result in 99.9% diagnostic coverage.
  • Added Reliability– Forced-to-Value Diagnostics (FVD) independently test each input point to verify proper operation of the input circuitry.
  • Unsurpassed Availability – The Trident is certified to operate in a 3-2-1-0 mode of operation.
  • TÜV Certified– The Trident is independently Certified for Functional Safety up to and including:
  • Communication Enhancements– The Trident's Main Processor communication capability eliminates the need for a dedicated Communication Module.
  • Scalable– The Trident is optimized for smaller systems supporting full TMR architecture for system capacities as low as 48 points.
  • Smaller System Footprint– Application Specific Integrated Ciruits (ASIC) and I/O modules that mount directly on field termination back-plates reduce the system footprint by more than 50%.
  • Flexible System Integration– The Trident system is typically mounted on a mounting plate that can be installed in stand-up or wall-mounted cabinets.
  • Ruggedized– Improved rugged design includes aluminum housing, gold plated contacts, conformal coating, and is splash proof, allowing operating temperatures from -20° to 70°C.

With the Trident, TMR is now cost effective for non-traditional applications such as:

  • High Integrity Protection Systems (HIPS)
  • High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS)
  • Pneumatic and Electromechanic Relay Retrofits
  • Turbomachinery Control and Shutdown
  • Burner Management Systems (BMS)
  • Critical Batch Control
  • Critical Process Control Loops
  • Emergency Shutdown (ESD)
